Guest Artist:

ATTA PILRAM

ATTA PILRAM is a multimedia painter, photographer, and serial entrepreneur. His experience in watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting has profoundly influenced his approach to photographyโ€”allowing him to frame a moment in his mind before capturing it through the lens.

His latest body of work, The ALTERNATIVE, showcases photography in a dynamic collage format, presenting diverse locations from around the world in a reimagined visual narrative.

Atta explores the intersection of memory, time, and place, offering viewers a unique perspective on familiar and unfamiliar landscapes.

Since 2000, he and his wife have been residents of Yerba Buena and Treasure Island, witnessing the transformation of these historic sites following their decommissioning.

Alternative Methods

The term' Alternative Photography' emerged in the early 20th century, initially as a marketing slogan for Kodak, when a factory worker was overheard saying, 'If it's not Kodak, it's just an alternative.' This phrase, born out of a competitive spirit, has come to represent a diverse range of experimental photographic techniques.

In this first exhibition of 2025, we have chosen to express ourselves through alternative photography methods, using materials from the past as if we had no choice. Yesterday's materials will be used with today's technology, possibly creating tomorrow's ventures.

6th on 7th Photography Workshop embraces an โ€œart as therapyโ€ approach dedicated to improving mental health amongst the underserved community in San Franciscoโ€™s South of Market neighborhood as well as military veterans interested in the art of photography and creative storytelling.

โ€œWe view self-expression as a right, and want to give people the opportunity and platform to share their stories.โ€
— Tom Ferentz, Founder

A project of Tenants and Owners Development Corporation (TODCO), the Photography Workshop has served the community since 1992.

Originally called โ€œSixth Street Photography Workshopโ€ when it was founded by photographer and educator Tom Ferentz with support from TODCO, the program was designed to last only six months. Over thirty years, later we lucky to continue our mission of spreading the love of photography in San Francisco and beyond.
